If you’re anything like me, birthdays and special days seem to sneak up out of nowhere. Often, I have the best of intentions. I’ll think of a special project for someone, but I’ll fail to execute it in time. All of a sudden, the day will be upon me, and once again, I’ll regret procrastinating.
As Mother’s Day soon approaches (celebrating the most wonderful, marvelous people of all time!) I wanted to share an idea with all of you. I got the idea here, but I can’t find the original post!
If you are a mother, forward this post to the father of your children. Cross your fingers. Pray.
If you are a father (and have been forwarded this post) do this for the mother of your children, and you shall be handsomely rewarded. Well, I can’t promise that, but the odds are in your favor.
If you are neither a mother or a father, you can do this for your own parents or grandparents. Trust me, they will love it.
I had my children spell out YOU ARE LOVED, and we did it for two special birthdays – my mom’s birthday and my father in law’s birthday. Their birthdays are just two days apart, so I only had to do it once, and print two sets of photos.
You can have your children spell out anything. Some ideas are MOMMY, DADDY, GRANDMA, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, but the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
- Go to your local drugstore and buy posterboard. I think the measurements are 18” x 24”, or something close.
- Sketch out the letters and cut them out. Your letters don’t have to be perfect, because the models will be contorting them in all sorts of ways, and your perfectionism will be wasted.
- Take lots and lots (and lots) of photos. In this case, more is better.
- Put together a small accordian book or assemble photos in a frame.
Because our phrase was rather long, I created accordian books for both my mom and father in law. If I had done a shorter word, I would have framed it. I wish I had a photo of the finished product for you but I don’t, so you’ll have to imagine it laid out.

What a wonderful idea! Thank you so much. I am always trying to think of unusual presents for my own mum, and this will be just perfect!
Here in the UK Mother’s Day is in March, so I have already had “my day” this year, but I will forward to my lovely husband in hopeful anticipation!

@ 280 days~
I didn’t realize that our Mother’s Days were held on different days of the year. Here’s hoping for next year!
@ Denise~
Hopefully your family will think of something. I know you deserve it!
@ P.P.~
The possibilities are endless.
@ Danica~
Thanks. The kids were good sports.
@ Shannon~
You’ll have to save this idea for when you have kiddies. ; )
Wonderful idea. I will definitely do this for my mum!
Thanks for the share!
@ Salwa~
I’m glad you like it!
Cute ~ looks like fun! One year my sister, her husband, me and my husband spelled out letters with our bodies…”Happy Day” (it was for a “birthday” but “Day” works for most occasions).
Then we printed out each of the 8 letters and stacked them in a box, along with some alligator clips pre-strung on a string.
Then my stepdad put together the gift (clipped each photo in its place) and it still is hanging, like a garland, in his office. The cool thing about your project and ours was that you can do it from just about anywhere and collaborate, thanks to digital photos.
@ Amy~
That’s a cute idea, too. And yes, both my mom and father in law have their accordian books displayed year-round.
