Last week, I posted about my new vegan-ish lifestyle. There was a lot of interest expressed in this subject, so I wanted to share some of my family’s favorite vegan recipes.
These are my Top 5 Vegan recipes that my meat-eating family regularly requests.
Crunchy Blue Corn Chickpea Tacos
The recipe can be found at veggie terrain. These tacos are so good, I have a difficult time limiting myself to two.
Vegan Tostada Pizza
Another recipe from veggie terrain. (Love your blog, jd!) I use Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Pizza Crust Mix to make the pizza dough. In order to make it vegan, I substitute water + flaxseed for the egg. (Instructions are on the packet.) This pizza is filling, and delicious, and packed full of good stuff.
Best of Everything Veggie Burger
The recipe can be found here. A word of caution, though…there is an art to cooking these. The first time, I “grilled” them on my Cuisinart Griddler and my four patties oozed into one big pattie, and then proceeded to spill over the sides. It was a mess, but they were still delicious. The second time, I baked them, and this was a total success. Once again, I substituted the water + flaxseed for the egg, and it was absolutely fabulous.
Homemade Mixed Veggie Pizza
I have come to love our homemade veggie pizza more than any other pizza. This is where I got the inspiration from, and where Danica explained that you have to sautee your veggies ahead of time in order to get the moisture out. Finding a good vegan cheese is key, and this is my favorite. You won’t be able to tell the difference, I swear.
Corn and Edamame-Sesame Salad
This salad recipe came from Veganomicon, my favorite vegan recipe book. I posted the recipe at my other blog (my very neglected other blog.) This salad literally takes minutes to prepare, and it is delicious.
I have one more recipe I want to share with you, but it will have to wait until later. I originally found the recipe online, but I’ve tweaked it so many times that it barely resembles the online recipe. Hint: it’s my favorite vegan snack.
Do any of these recipes look good to you? Do you have a vegan or vegetarian recipe you recommend? Maybe a vegan/vegetarian product that works for you and your family? Please share so that we can all learn from each other.

am going to give the burger a go first.
All of these recipes look great and as a vegetarian who seems to never be around other vegetarians it’s always helpful to have some delicious-looking recipe ideas that everyone will enjoy.
Unfortunately I’m not much of a chef so I don’t have any recipes to share. I’m more of a microwave kinda girl, but I’m looking forward to seeing what others post.
Thanks for these!
I love these, they look so good. I think I need to try the tacos. I’m mostly vegan but my family is not so I love to find recipes that they would love too.
(Oh, found you through the comment you left on Melissa’s blog.)
Oh my goodness these all look delsih!! lovin both of the pizzas
K ~ LOVE all the recipes she has up there and have tried almost all of them too! I agree even if you are not vegan, you will love them all the same. Great pics K! Everything looks delish.
P.S. I know your favorite snack so I won’t ruin it for ya

Let me know what you think of the burger!

If you find a quick veg product, you can share that, too. I always need a few tricks up my sleeve when I don’t feel like cooking.
@ Gina~
(Thanks for letting me know how you found me–I’m always curious.) The tacos area OUTSTANDING. They won’t disappoint.
@ Shannon~
You can never go wrong with pizza. ; )
@ Danica~
You also know that I had a hard time narrowing it down to 5 recipes! : )
So funny - I just had a friend ask me for recipes that weren’t too high in cholesterol and I directed her to your site. I think these vegan recipes are probably pretty healthy.
Hi Kirwin! Recipes look great! DidnĀ“t mean to worry you by disappearing but my husband took my laptop and son to work this morning, brought back son, but not laptop till now grrrrr. But, yes, I am a bit quiet too…tired.
Hi Kirwin,
I have been a vegetarian for about 21 years (vegan for the last 8 years) and I love it. Glad to see you are giving it a try. Anyway…the pictures made me so hungry. They look so yummy. I will have to try those recipes.
Since you are interested in vegan cooking, the best cupcake cookbook is “Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World”. It is the best cookbook on cupcakes ever. I make them so often and my non-vegan friends are always amazed that the cupcakes are vegan. So you have to try it.
Another great vegan source for vegan cool stuff to try is Cosmo’s Vegan Shoppe. They have an actual shop and an online shop which sells awesome products.
if you keep posting all these links, I will never get off the computer. I want to get that cupcake book recommended by Nadia. the pizza’s look good too.
Hilarious, I really think you’ve been reading my mind. I was only yesterday looking for vegan/raw food recipes and now you send out this post!
Here’s a site I came across that had plenty of good ones; http://www.chooseveg.com/
Btw, you might want to get out of my mind, you never know what craziness you’ll find in there!
Hi ~ great recipes here and I love that they use minimally processed ingredients. Yum to the Veggie Tostada Pizza. My sister and I like these black bean tacos (minus the feta, of course) when we cook for our vegan Dad.
And thanks for visiting my site. Looking forward to following your blog as well!
Oops, black bean tacos here: http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/02/crispy-black-bean-tacos-with-feta-and-slaw/

Thanks for the referral! Yes, I think they’re all very healthy.
@ Nadia~
Yes, I’ve heard of that cookbook. I think it was written by the same person as my current favorite: Veganomicon. Thanks for the recommendations.
@ RML~
I’m glad you’re fine. Your very-pregnant state had me worried… ; )
@ dmoms~
Sorry to cause such problems!! LOL Let me know if you try (and like) any of them.
@ Sami~
Thanks for the link–I bookmarked it. You know what they say…Great minds think alike; Fools never differ.@ Amy~
Yes, I’m very much into clean foods. If I have time, I prefer to make something myself. Thanks for the Black Bean Taco recipe. I’ll be sure to check it out!
Hi~
Some of my current favorite cookbooks are Vegan Express by Nava Atlas, Vegan with a Vengence by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and (getting ready for grilling season) the Vegetarian Grill. I’ve pulled lots of yummy things (quick too) from Vegan Express and I really Vegan with a Vegence for the deserts and breakfasts.
We’re still finding new things to adjust to this new way of life for me and the fam-I was super excited to see your recipes here!
@ Gina~
Thanks so much for the recs. I already love Isa Chandra Moskowitz (Veganomicon) but haven’t checked out Vegan with a Vengence, yet. I’m glad to have the other options, too.
Oh wow. I just found your blog through RML’s. I’m an American in Berlin, and I love the idea of the add/edit project you are doing. The recipes that you left look really great. One of my favorite books is Vegan with a Vengeance! I hauled it to Germany with me.
I love what you’re doing, and I look forward to following it. (Thanks RML!)
Katie
@ Katie~
I’m so glad RML sent you my way. I love visitors! Please join Renia and I for edit/add/appreciate on Sunday…we’re kind of lonely.
Thanks for the cookbook rec. I’ve read (and love) Veganomicon, but still need to check out Vegan with a Vengeance.
I don’t know that I’ve got any vegan recipes to contribute, but I do have a few meatless ones that are really yummy and very filling: one’s a beautiful chickpea salad, and the other’s a Cretan specialty called boureki (made with zucchini, potatoes and feta).
Let me know if you’re interested …
@ Chania girl~
I’d LOVE to get those recipes from you! I’ll give them a whirl and tell you what I think. My family is learning to love the chickpea. ; )
love this post! I am not a vegan, but don’t eat many animal products and like raw food.
many thanks!
cristin
@ cristin~
I’ve always been very curious about raw food. Right now, the prep overwhelms me, but I’d still like to learn more about it. Thanks for stopping by.
