I am totally on board with bringing reusable bags to the grocery store. I can’t remember when was the last time I didn’t have them with me.
In fact, it’s such an easy way to help the environment, that I gave each of the girls in my family their own cute little Baggu for Christmas. Custom colors and prints to match each person’s personality.
But what do you do with the produce? I mean, what about all the plastic bags that you put your lemons, your apples, your lettuce in?
I have too many plastic bags to count. We used to have a use for them (dirty diapers) but potty-training has eliminated this need.
I have started to re-use my plastic bags, by folding them and bringing them to the store with me. Wherever I go, my Baggus and my used plastic bags go. This the only thing I can think of, but maybe you have a better suggestion.
What do you do with your produce? What system do you use, re-use?

I like the idea of recycling your plastic bags too. I think that often you can get away with not using plastic bags on most things at Trader Joe’s. However, at the grocery store…hmmmm. I could maybe give it up for apples and such, but, sometimes lettuce just needs it so it doesn’t get things messy. Good point!
Love the bags you use - super cute. Mine are a mix and match of my favorite ones and they clash (gasp!)

If I only have a handful of loose fruit (remember I shop almost everyday in Germany
) say 5 apples or lemons, I put them straight in my basket and straight on the conveyor belt altogether - of course they have to be washed anyway and then it saves those little plastic bags which are a real bugbear of mine!
I get my produce through a organic delivery company. For the most part it all comes loose in the bin. otherwise, i reuse my bags like you!
Danica~ Mine are pretty bright–not my first choice in colors, but they’re pretty easy to find at the bottom of my purse.
RML~ I try to get away without the bags, but by now I already have so many…I may as well just re-use the ones I have.
Denise~ Organic delivery…lovely! It sounds ideal.
Hi! I hopped on over here from the UBP and wanted to check out some of your other posts, so here’s my two cents. (I’m also interested in going green and all that too.) I bought some cotton produce bags at reusablebags.com. They work well. But I have an issue when I get home. What do I do with the green onions? Leave ‘em out so my whole fridge can smell like them?! Lettuce seems to get wilty too. So. It’s a little bit confusing… let me know if you come up with any better solutions!
Joelle ~ Thanks for the link. I’ll go check out the reusable bags. I know–I don’t want to have a stinky fridge, but I also don’t want to buy and store 20 reusable bags for my fresh produce.
