With honors

When I was in highschool, my average GPA was 3.4. Pretty good, right?

Not for my dad. I mean, he wasn’t disappointed in me, but he thought I could do better. You see, by senior year, I was taking four Honors classes. That means that my highest possible GPA was 4.8, as opposed to 4.0.

My dad saw my capabilites, knew what was possible, and wanted to see me achieve my full potential.

I was happy enough with 3.4, sometimes at 3.6, and it pretty much stayed there. I got into a good college, and that was all I wanted. It was good enough.

But what if that just good enough attitude has snuck into the rest of my life? I fear that it has.

I fear that I’m slightly overweight, but not too much. I look good enough. For a mom.

I fear that I could be doing more with my children.

I fear that I could be more romantic with my husband.

I fear that I could be a better daughter, sister, friend.

But is it possible to do all of these things with honors? Is it possible to be the best at all of these things, and not run yourself ragged?

I prepare to find out.

Are there any areas of your life where you want to achieve more? A role in your life that you could be doing better or something else that you’ve always wanted to do? What is it?

I think that as long as you are making the most of you, it doesn’t matter if you are an over achiever or someone who balances it enough to make it “just good enough”. I often find that we are our own worst critics and that means we may not see that we actually excel in all these areas. You don’t always have to be perfect in every aspest, you just need to make the most of what you have in life :) As long as you are working toward making yourself better, then, IMO, you are doing everything with honors as you grow.

Love that you asked a question too :) For me personally, I strive to do better in everything so I know when I walk away, I feel as though I did my best.

Hi D,

What you say is so true. Excellence over perfection, is a great motto. I just want to be the best me, you know?
