Before I tell you my plan, I’d like to get a few things out of the way.
The most obvious: Right now, as we’re beginning to pack up our belongings and move our home, it may or may not be the right time to start something new; however, judging from many of your comments on this post, I know you agree that I need to start taking better care of myself, and this includes eating better. Way better.
Not as obvious: I do better with a black & white plan, with little grey area. This is especially true when I’m extra tired or stressed out and my defenses are down. Boy, can I sweet-talk myself into believing anything. Imagine the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other…that angel doesn’t stand a chance when she’s tired.
Also not as obvious: I tend to eat the same breakfast, snacks, and lunch through the week. I’ve found meals that I enjoy and that are relatively quick to prepare. I don’t get tired of these same meals, as long as dinner is varied.
The Plan
Breakfast: 2 eggs (organic, free range, Omega 3) + green smoothie
Snack: raw nuts, not more than 1/4 cup (mixture of almonds & pistachios)
Lunch: 1 c. greek yogurt, big plate of greens & fresh veggies (drizzled with olive oil & vinegar)
Snack: raw nuts and/or fruit and/or green smoothie (will vary depending on mood and level of hunger)
Dinner: to be planned in advance, on a weekly basis. Emphasis on organic, free-range, grassfed, unprocessed,…
***When I’m eating healthy, I like to keep a food journal. I actually enjoy it. Usually my food journal is paper and pen, because I’m old fashioned like that. This time, I’m *toying* with the idea of keeping an online journal — something I may or may not share with you. It’s really a personal thing as opposed to a food blog. Truth be told, I may just stick to pen and paper…
I start on Monday, because tomorrow I’m eating crepes at Farmer’s Market, #2 on my list.
What do you think? Too strict or just right? Would this work for you?

yes, it would totally work for me. I would need to measure the nuts as well - a handful can quickly turn into more than a cup if I am not watching.
enjoy the crepes!
Have you found your new home already?
If you like all of those foods then I totally think it will work for you. I never like diet plans because I like to each specific things - oatmeal for breakfast, i struggle with lunch choices and never know what will satisfy me and I have to measure snacks so they don’t get out of control. I like the planned dinner ahead. Sounds like a great way to get back on track and maybe the structure will make decisions easier as you pack and move. I use a paper and pen food journal because it is much easier to write it down as you prepare it than to remember and record it later. I even have found that with my exercise journal which I kept on-line for a long time but I never go back and look at the overall view but on my calendar when it is hand written I can see how the week looks over all.
I’m a pen and paper girl too. I like to keep a food journal when I veer away from eating like I should. It helps to see everything I’ve put into my body written down on paper. If I don’t, I’m just mindlessly eating. When I start back eating well, I start just like you, with a plan for breakfast and lunch and snacks. Those are the meals that get me off-balance. If I have those prepared a head of time, I do much better.
Keeping a food journal is such a great idea. I recently did it for about six months and learned a lot about my relationship with food. Good luck with the move!
My husband and I have been doing something along this line for the last two weeks. With enough planning (i.e., making sure plenty of the right fruits, nuts, juices, etc. are on hand) it can be wonderful.
We’ve also taken a break from caffeine, sugar, salt, and dairy in an attempt to focus on liver and gland health. I used to wake up with headaches almost every day, and in the 15 days we’ve been doing this, I’ve only had a headache once. And I just generally feel better about myself.
Good luck!
I think it’s great to recognize that you need to put you first in the midst of all the crazy life changes. I think you have an excellent, healthy and stress free plan….but, what matters most is that it’s a plan you can live with
Good luck, good luck!
