A Rainbow Birthday Party

by kirwin on May 19, 2010

partyhatOn Sunday, we celebrated my daughter’s 4th birthday. She had requested a Rainbow theme.

invite1_resizedWe sent out these rainbow frisbees as invitations. {genius idea from here}

Decorations were simple: rainbow-colored streamers, puffballs, balloons, and my standard wrapping-paper-as-tablescaping-trick.

The main activities {besides eating} were a pinata and a treasure hunt that I created for the kids.

pinata1treas_hunttreas_hunt_detailThe kids were given a red balloon with a photographic clue, leading them to the next color balloon. They went from red to orange to yellow to green to blue to purple. The purple balloon led them to the treasure! {beachballs, bubbles, and live ladybugs — open-ended outdoor activities}

pancakesSince it was a mid-morning party, the party-goers were served a stack of rainbow pancakes. {genius idea from here}

And then came the rainbow birthday cake. My colors didn’t turn out as pretty as hers, but the 3 and 4 year olds didn’t seem to notice.

In the giftbags, the partygoers received a rainbow lollipop, rainbow licorice, a wristband, a notebook, and a mechanical pencil with all the colors of the rainbow.

The wrapping paper table runner idea is awesome. I am throwing a baby shower this fall and I am definitely borrowing this idea. Your party must have had a pot of gold at the end…just so fun and lovely! :)
