{Better than} an apple a day…

An apple green smoothie a day, keeps the doctor away…

So far, I’ve managed to keep up with my 30 day habit to have a green smoothie every day. I don’t know if it’s psychological or physiological, but I feel healthier – the smoothies make me want to eat cleaner, fresher, better.

Here’s what’s in my smoothie:

1/2 cup organic orange juice
1/2 cucumber, peeled
3-4 kale leaves, depending on size
bunch of parsley
2 tsp. chia seeds (not pictured)

How do you make your green smoothie?

there is no recipe. I just use what I have. I will tell you that a nice ripe pear is awesome in a green smoothie. makes it very sweet. i have not bought any chia seeds. what are your thoughts on chia seeds?

@ Denise~ thanks for the tip on the pears. I tried half an apple once, and it was awful! Maybe a bad apple??

Chia seeds…they’re supposed to be really good for Omega 3’s, maybe even more than flaxseed. They’re also supposed to be really good for keeping you hydrated. I read about them on someone else’s blog, and I thought I’d give them a try. : )

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever made or had a green smoothie! :)

But I make a “normal” smoothie every day with fresh fruit that goes something like this:
1 whole banana, sliced
1 fresh juicy orange, juiced
1/4 - 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
milk
1 or 2 tablespoons of thick Greek yogurt

It’s da bomb! And great after the gym. We use peaches and apricots when strawberries go out of season.

You green smoothie is really GREEN - love it! :D

I still like spinach over kale in mine and to add more fruit….oh and vanilla almond milk plus banana makes it like a banana shake to me.

I haven’t made one in awhile - I should do that again.

Congrats on keeping up with your 30 day habit….you are doing awesome!

I like to blend avocado, coconut milk, and banana. It’s a surprisingly good mix.

@ chania girl~ “normal” smoothies are good, too. Peaches and apricots sound delish!! I’ve never tried that.

@ danica~ I can’t do spinach– it gives me terrible stomach pains. Thanks for the encouragement! : )

@ Julia~ Welcome! Weirdly, your combination sounds good…I might have to try it. I’ve heard that avocado makes a nice creamy texture. (Thanks for stopping by and commenting.)
