Back in January, I did not make any New Year resolutions. Instead, I started thinking of ways that I can incorporate my Style Statement into my daily life. What kinds of baby steps could I take to get closer to my Graceful Creative self?
When I read my Graceful Creative description, I feel a wave of peace come over me. I feel a big sigh of relief, like, “Ahhh…that’s me.” I feel understood and valued.
Then why do I not honor my Graceful Creative self on a daily basis?
So I set about doing this. I used Carrie and Danielle’s Lifestyle map to sift through my life and find ways to become more of myself and to honor my Graceful Creative self. The Lifestyle Map is broken down into 8 areas of life, and you are at the center:
~ Home & Stuff
~ Fashion & Sensuality
~ Spirit & Learning
~ Service & Wealth
~ Relationships & Communication
~ Creativity & Celebration
~ Body & Wellness
~ Nature & Rest/Relaxation
In order to honor my Graceful Creative self, this is what I’m striving for in 2009.
Home & Stuff
–to continue to make progress fixing up our house (actually, I would like it to be DONE by the end of 2009
–to have less stuff (crap)
–to go through the house, one closet at a time, one room at a time and purge!
–to not get more stuff (crap) unless it passes a “litmus test” of whether it’s worthy of buying/obtaining & storing.
Fashion & Sensuality
–as above, to purge all clothing that does not fit, that I don’t wear, or whatever.
–to really analyze and know my style, so that I only buy things that I will definitely wear
–to get some really sexy lingerie/under things that make me feel sexy (and bras that fit properly!)
–to find and buy a great pair of jeans that flatter the heck out of me
Spirit & Learning
–to feel closer with God, to speak to him more often
–to go to church regularly (not every Sunday, but I’d like to feel like a regular attendee. I don’t believe that a person must go to church regularly in order to be a good person, but I’d like my children to be raised with some familarity with the church.)
–to have my daughter baptised
–learn Spanish!
–”learn” to give a really great speech/toast at my sister’s wedding in August
Service & Wealth
–to practice random acts of kindness (and to do this with my children so they can see how much fun it is to give)
–to find some sort of philanthropy/volunteer work that I could do with my 5-year old. I’d like him to know how lucky he is, and to learn to help others.
–to become more aware of outflow & spending (where is the money going?!)
–to actively curb wasteful spending
–to actively save for an emergency fund
–to find/create a “job” for myself where I can be creative & make money & be home for my kids
Relationships & Communication
–to have more physical touch with husband
–to plan & have more date nights with husband
–to spend 10 min. daily, talking one-on-one (no kids, no TV!)
–to deepen other friendships
–to sit down to dinner as a family every night
–to have at least one family adventure/activity a month
Creativity & Celebration
–to host a grown up party!! (I always dream about this, but I’ve never done it–too chicken. However, my sister’s getting married so I have plenty of opportunities to host b-showers & bach party!)
–to channel my creativity into a money-making venture for myself (etsy??)
–to have (and do) a weekly creative activity with the kids
Body & Wellness
–to establish 5:30 gym workouts as a way of life
–to establish clean eating as a way of life
–to kick junky, processed foods/candies to the curb
–to somehow add yoga to the mix for whole-body wellness
–to go to the dentist twice (I hate it and avoid it at all costs!)
–to learn 12 new recipes for dinners that are clean, easy to prep, and yummy for the whole family
–to eat 5 veggies a day
–to drink green tea daily
–to work back up to Level 2 workouts with Jillian
–to be fit enough to do Level 3 workouts (if I choose to!)
–to finally lose the weight so that I feel confident and happy (I think this would be around 135-140 lbs, but not sure.)
Nature & Rest/Relaxation
–to meditate 3x daily (start with 7 min. each time, work my way up to more)
–to use a vision board to help me achieve all of my goals
–to establish “me” time so it is respected by both my children and husband
–to be present wherever I am (not to constantly be thinking of all the other things I should be doing)
