As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been reading –and loving– Kathy Freston’s newest book, The Quantum Wellness Cleanse. Although I had heard about Kathy Freston, through Oprah of course, I had never followed up on her. {This is off-topic, but sometimes I ignore things that Oprah promotes just because I don’t want to be part of “the herd.”}
So although I had already heard of Freston and her Quantum Wellness, it was this post at Crazy Sexy Life that made me follow up on the book. And boy am I glad I did!
In the interest of full disclosure, I haven’t even finished the book yet; I’m about half-way through. But as I read further and further into the book, I find myself getting more and more excited –and less and less apprehensive– about doing the 21-day cleanse.
During the cleanse, you are to give up:
- gluten
- caffeine!
- alcohol
- sugar
- all animal protein
I imagine that caffeine and sugar are going to be the most difficult things for me to give up. And to be even more honest, I even toyed with the idea of giving up everything except caffeine. However, since I want to feel the full effects of the cleanse, I will be giving up my regular 2 cups of coffee for the entirety of the 21 days. Also, I was inspired and buoyed by this quote from Kathy.
We all have routines or habits around food that come to control us, and the cleanse gives us a chance to see these habits with clear eyes. I know that whenever I find myself thinking I “couldn’t possibly” give up this or that, I realize just how much I am owned by it.
The main difference about this cleanse and most others, is that you could actually live on this one forever…if you chose. I am not saying I will or that I won’t, I’m just sayin’.
According to Kathy, some of the benefits that you can expect from the cleanse are:
- more energy
- clearer skin and eyes
- weight loss
- cessation of certain aches, pains, and digestive ailments
- release from addictive habits
- a profound and deepened awareness of your personal power and the effect you have in the world
I’ll be spending this next weekend in Napa with my sister and a few of her closest friends for my sister’s bachelorette weekend. Therefore, I’ll be starting my 21-day cleanse on Monday. The only thing that kind of bothers me –because I’m very Type A!– is that Day 20 of the cleanse happens to be my sister’s wedding day. Most likely, all five of the no-no’s will be had on this special occasion.
Of course, I plan to blog about my experience(s) on the cleanse, but I’d like to know from all of you — to what depth?
Personally, I would enjoy reading about someone else’s cleanse-experience. I’d want to know how they were feeling. I’d want to know if they were experiencing withdrawals symptoms and/or benefits. I’d want to know if they were hungry or satisfied. I’d also want to know if they found any recipes that were worth sharing. But that’s just me…
How much do you want to know?
Please let me know if you want me to write a daily post on what I ate and how I’m feeling. I’m not promising pictures, because this isn’t a food blog. If I do write these daily posts, they would be in addition to –not instead of– my regular posts.
I’ll be keeping track of these things anyways for my own personal record, but I’ll gladly post the information if there’s an interest.
What do you think?
I’m linking this post to Melissa’s Beautiful Life series, because it’s time I start treating my body better.

oh, yes! I want full details. But, that is just me. I know you will do this because I can feel your commitment to it. Don’t worry about day 20. You need to enjoy that day to its fullest.
Definitely interested in reading about how you’re getting on, Kirwin, particularly about what you’ve eaten and how you’re feeling.
I would definately be interested in how you’re feeling and what you’re eating, and by posting details you’ll give all of us a chance to cheer you on.
Hey Kirwin, I’d be keen to hear how you go with it and more importantly how you feel. Always up for new information when it comes to health and fitness and it’s even better when it’s tried and tested by someone I know.
I’m with the others - the more details the better! I’d love hearing how you process your way through these changes and the effects you’re feeling from it.
Let’s have it!
I want to hear how you feel, and also whether you think you’re getting the promised results. Is your skin clearer? Do you have more energy? How about weight loss and digestion/aches/pains?
Also, I wanted to recommend Larabars to you, if you haven’t heard of them yet. They are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, non-GMO (genetically modified organisms), vegan, and kosher. They are usually about 60% raw (depending on the variety) and are unprocessed. They have no added preservatives, no added sugars, no added fats…a typical ingredient list reads something like this: peanuts, figs, salt. And they taste delicious! Fresh, if you can imagine that from a food bar. I’m not sure where you are (did you say the San Francisco area?), but they are available online from larabar.com if you can’t find them locally. I get mine at Sprouts. Sorry to go on and on, I just love these bars - and I thought of you instantly when I heard about them.
@ everyone~
Okey-dokey! I’m happy to oblige. Thank you to all of you for your support. Promise to encourage me when the sugar-monkey is on my back? ; )
@ Sharone~
Thanks for the recommendation and for thinking of me. I love Larabars!! My favorite flavors are Apple Pie and Banana Bread. I need to stock up before I begin. ; )
