My Signature Style, a few more layers

by kirwin on May 7, 2009

This project all started with this post. Thus, my own quest began to define my own Signature Style.

Last week, I posted the 5 Key Elements of my Signature Style. I chose jeans, a white ribbed tank, a slim-fitting 3/4 length sleeve black tee, a light weight army green jacket, and a black cashmere cardigan. At the end of the post, I was feeling ambitious and promised to add two more clothing items as well as two accessories.

This week, I chose layering pieces: t-shirts and scarves.

Never underestimate a great t-shirt!

This is my heather-grey Daftbird t-shirt. It was a little on the pricier end, but I’ve worn it so many times that I don’t regret a single penny.

A good white t-shirt belongs in every closet.

This is the best one I have right now, but I’m always on the lookout for something better. I’d prefer a little more length. This one happened to be $13 at Old Navy.

I have been very into scarves this season.

This is one of my favorites. I bought it at Lulu’s.com, a great place to get inexpensive, fun accessories.

This is another one of my favorites.

I bought it in Indonesia 11 years ago. Who says you can’t keep things around for a while?

I’ll add something else next week. Does anyone else want to play along? I know that Renia is doing it –all the cool kids are!– so be sure to check out what she’s added.

What’s your favorite accessory this season?

I love the scarf from Lulu’s. I also “heart” scarfs and in the winter weather here I get to indulge to my heart´s content.

Do you have a long torso? I am tall and I think mine is long in proportion to my legs, because I often have trouble finding t-shirts long enough for comfort - or is it just the fashion that everything is short?

of course, the white t-shirt is essential !! I have a long and short sleeved. I love scarfs too but for me it is another layer to help me stay warm. I have even been known to wear a scarf to bed - how sexy is that?

@ RML~
I have a long torso, and relatively short legs. Lately, it seems easier to find longer shirt –I think longer is back in style– but I also think that cheaper quality pieces shrink in length. *cough* OLD NAVY *cough*

@dmoms~
Did you only wear the scarf to bed? Now, THAT’s sexy!! LOL

oh my gosh, that made me laugh. Oh no. Scarf was on top of my sweats, socks, and probably long sleeve white t-shirt.

by the way, I love the schedule of your blog. It is just the right amount of schedule. Next Friday I am going to do my “not so style statement” : )

xoxoxo

LOVE the scarf from Indonesia — beautiful!

In addition to scarves, belts are all the rage in Greece. You just don’t go out without one. Especially a cool one.

I, however, tend to avoid belts because of a less-than-skinny waist and nice, big birthing hips. I do have a wide, silver number that I like, though, with my skinny jeans and silver turtleneck. Every time G sees me in it, he can’t stop saying how cute I am. So … I guess that’s good. ;)

Love the T-shirts and scarves. I’ve been really into scarves this season too. There are so many fun, lightweight ones and they can totally transform a bland outfit into something fabulous. I’d have to say that my favorite accessory this season has been…well…anything neon. I’ve been really into bringing back the ’80s lately. It’s bright and fun! I’ve had some challenges with incorporating into work outfits, but for the weekend, it’s great. :)

am liking the grey scarf best. and the grey tee too. Have just discovered petit bateau for tees. I have heard that they are the best. and have bought one to try out to see how long it lasts. its long. which is a good thing. and seems to be bearing up well so far. as opposed to the primark numbers which look shite after the first wash. and indeed some gap tees. which arent really cheap here.

Yep, great t-shirts are a must around here!

I love the scarves. A great scarf really ties an outfit together and adds sophistication. Sadly, they look horrid on me…. I mean *really* terrible. ‘Tis very sad indeed. I guess me and scarves were not meant to be… {sigh}

Love the Lulu’s scarf a lot and give me a t-shirt and pair of jeans any day. That’s pretty much my uniform!

@ Denise~
I’m glad I could make you laugh. : ) I can’t wait to read your “not so style statement!”

@ Shannon~
Thanks. One day, I’ll go back and buy more. ; )

@ Chania Girl~
I have a small waist, but I don’t usually “show it off.” I feel like it emphasizes how large my hips are. (Will us girls ever be happy?!)

@ PP~
Neon?! You’re brave, my friend. I’m fair-skinned with lots of freckles, so neon is not my go-to color. ; )

@ getting stuff done~
I firmly believe in “quality over quantity.” I’ll be sure to check out Petit Bateau shirts — I’m sure I’ve heard of them, before. BTW, I stumbled upon the yummiest blog the other day with lots of french style. It’s in French, so I don’t understand a word of it, but the fashion photos are gorgeous. I’ll find the blog address and send it to you, because I know you love the French Fashion. ; )

@ Falling Around~
It’s funny that there seems to be an “art” around tying a scarf. In fact, I just saw a movie that discussed this. (I think the movie was “Le Divorce”.) I’m sorry you haven’t found that works for you. : (

@ Sami~
I bought the Lulu’s scarf when I was buying Christmas presents for my sister and sister-in-laws. It was like, “One for you, and one for me…” ; )

Marci @OvercomingBusy May 8, 2009 at 8:17 pm

I have friends who look great in their scarves. So chic in their T-shirts or jackets. Me…well, I am not that coordinated or hip. I’d probably hang myself. My accessory of choice is jewelry. Give me the bling any day! Its easy, it sparkles and I can wear it with a T shirt or a dress. Can’t beat that!

Amy @Feasibly Fit Mom May 8, 2009 at 8:44 pm

I’ve been doing hats lately — maybe because I’ve not been doing my hair lately :) I like fashion-y caps with patterns to wear with jeans.

kirwin May 9, 2009 at 8:43 pm

@ Marci~
You’re so funny. I like jewelry, too, but I’m a minimalist. I’m not good at mixing a bunch of pieces.

@ Amy~
Ooh hats! I love them on a bad-hair day!

Danica May 21, 2009 at 3:57 pm

You look fabulous in all your signature style clothes - LOVE the scarfs. They really dress things up.

P.S. I think you look skinny too :D

kirwin May 21, 2009 at 9:38 pm

@ Danica~
Ha! You’re so sweet. I look “skinny” because I cropped out my bottom-half. Thanks, though.
