I planned to do a post detailing my plans to living a healthier lifestyle — my big focus for the month. However, I’ve had a headache all day and I’m just tired.
How about a little light-hearted post instead, and we’ll save the Healthy Lifestyle post for tomorrow? {pinkie promise}

My precious pumpkin is turning 3 next week. I don’t know where the time has gone, but I won’t get into that right now. One of my favorite things over the last 5 years has been planning the kids’ birthdays.
I can’t help myself. The second part of my Style Statement is Creative!
For my daughter’s birthday, the loose “theme” is Her Favorite Things. The colors will be pink and purple and the menu will include some of her favorite foods. Since she’s only turning three, and she doesn’t have any peeps yet, it will be grandparents and aunts and uncles.
But that doesn’t mean that I can’t have fun with the invitation!
I finished making the invitations this afternoon. I bought the supplies at my favorite paper shop, Paper Source.
The poem/song on the left side is my re-written version of These Are a Few of My Favorite Things from the classic movie, The Sound of Music.
It reads:
Backpacks on Dora and treefrogs on Diego
Red meat and “more milk” and TV and lego
Make up and lip gloss and bandaids and rings
These are a few of her favorite things
Purple Crayola and unagi sushi
Lambchops and skateboards and shaking her tushie
Tinkerbell flying with shimmery wings
These are a few of her favorite things
Picking her nostril and keeping us guessing
Dipping that finger into the ranch dressing
Racing her brother to do everything
These are a few of her favorite things
When her mom yells,
“Two-minute warning!”
When she’s feeling sad
She simply remembers her favorite things
And then she {don’t} feel so bad.
Oh. By the way. For all you Aussies and Kiwis out there…yes, those are Springbok jersies you see above! ; )

Very cute jerseys! What is the Springbok connection?
@ RML~
I’m originally from South Africa. We emigrated here in 1976. My dad is a HUGE rugby fan, and insists on buying his grandkids Springbok jersies! (Do you follow rugby?)
What a fantastically creative invitation! Such fun - I love it!
OMG, Kirwin! You are a poet and I didn’t know it! (Sorry, couldn’t resist). I loved this post and are so glad you shared it with us. Light-hearted and fun is GOOD :0)
My favorite part of party planning = the planning, especially the decorations. I love color-coordinating and coming up with themes that tie everything together. Love making cheap party favors, too. Needless to say, G is a bit wary about letting me loose on our wedding! LOL!
Thank you so much for this lovely bit of cotton candy today - light, airy, and sweet!
Springboks? Nooooooooooo!
Thats so cute! Yes, I used to follow rugby back home and my Dad and my brothers (3) are fanatics! I am sure they all still have dreams of family members being in national teams one day!
look at you! I hope I get invited.
Love those jerseys (and the kiddos in ‘em are soo cute!!).
Great poem too. “picking her nostril and keeping us guessing”. Ha!
@ Kiki~
Thanks! It was fun making them.
@ Chania Girl~
I like the decortating and tying in to a theme, too. I can’t wait to hear more about the wedding.
@ Wallaby Supporter (Sami)~
I’m sorry, but it’s the cold, hard truth. ; )
@ RML~
LOL My dad has dreams of my son playing rugby. Unfortunately, out here, rugby leagues are much harder to find — especially for 5-year olds!
@Dmoms~
Of course, of course. It’s “in the mail.” ; )
@ Mylestones~
Ha ha — That line makes my husband cringe, every time. The kids especially like “shaking her tushie,” and burst out laughing every time (as if they’ve never heard it before.)
Kirwin ~ Great job at being so creative with the invites! I LOVE the pic of the kiddos too! Can’t wait to hear all about the party.

That is so adorable and creative! I love the song you wrote — she is going to LOVE that one day when she’s older. You are so creative!!
Great job on the poem/song! It is too cute! Very creative.
I love this, what a great idea! I love doing big deal parties for my kids-even if it’s just us family. Birthdays should be celebrated with style!
Loving those cute invites and of course your cutie-pie kids! Just adorable. Sounds like it’s going to be a fab party.
The invites are precious! My kids love the sound of music.
I love planning. I just need help with putting together the details to make it a reality. My secret is delegate, delegate, delegate.
@ Danica~
Thanks. I’ll try to take lots of photos at the party.
@ PP~
Thank you. I’m thinking of writing a version for my son, too — because they both love this version so much!!
@ Life Lessons~
Thanks. It was fun creating it.
@ Gina~
My sentiments exactly. ; )
@ 280 Days~
Thanks. I’m sure it will be fun!
@ Marci~
It will be a while before my kids can appreciate The Sound of Music. Thanks for the tip to delegate! : )
Hi,
I am currently planning my son’s 2nd birthday, coming up on Dec 24th. Last year I did the theme Winter One-derland & this year my theme is based on the Sound of Music song “My favorite things”. I was searching online for some ideas & came across your website. Just wanted you to let you know that I absolutely loved your idea of changing the song lyrics
